REI provides world-class modeling of combustion systems using
the in-house, proprietary Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
software tools Banff and Glacier. REI couples this state-of-the-art
combustion simulation software with experienced combustion
engineers to provide unique solutions to complex combustion
problems. CFD solutions benefit clients in several ways, including:
- improved
understanding of how combustion systems operate and interact
(why does my furnace do that?),
- evaluation
of new technologies
(will this work in my furnace?),
- evaluation
of proposed system design or operational changes
(what happens if I do this?),
- identification
of specific problem areas and problem sources
(where is the problem and what is causing it?)
- design
or guidance of experiments
(what tests should we try?).
REI believes that the key to successful problem solving with
CFD is the combination of superior modeling tools with expert
combustion modelers. REI has a staff of experienced engineers
that can and have addressed a wide range of combustion problems.
The REI staff is committed to providing accurate, timely solutions
to each client’s needs, and can tailor the level of
client interaction or type of results provided to suit each
client’s needs.
REI
has modeled over 120 reacting and non-reacting systems and
has typically focused on two categories of problems –
pollutant emissions
and performance optimization.
REI has particular expertise using combustion simulations
to evaluate NOx reduction technologies and the operational
impacts of these technologies in coal-fired boilers for the
electric utility industry. Visit the Applications
section of this website to see specific examples of REI applications.
REI
works with a variety of clients
from industry, research organizations and government agencies.
This includes system owners and operators, manufacturers,
vendors, developers, and researchers. This breadth of experience
allows REI to keep abreast of current developments in CFD
technology while retaining an understanding of how to solve
real-world problems.
For
the rare occasion when a client’s needs are outside
the expertise of the REI staff, REI can refer the client to
another modeling source that can supply more appropriate services.
